How to Become a Full-Time Content Creator in 2024
Jun 21, 2024Right now, I'm laying out the top-level strategy of how you can become a full-time content creator in 2024. Let me be clear: this is NOT for influencers who want to do silly TikTok dances or vlogs to get brand deals.
Let’s get down to the basics of how you can become a 7-figure content creator.
I know that might sound crazy. Trust me, it still sounds crazy to me. I got into this whole content creation thing just to earn a couple of extra thousand dollars a month, but now, two years into this journey, I’m a 7-figure content creator earning over six figures each month in revenue. And yes, I even have the badge (which I will never wear) to prove it.
This post is part of my eight-part “Become a Content Creator” free teaching series on YouTube. If you want to make sure you never miss out when a new video in this series is released, make sure you don’t just subscribe but also turn on that notification bell.
Stick around to the end of this post—I’ll answer some direct questions from my students about the pain points and doubts they’re overcoming on their journey to becoming content creators.
But first, let’s start with the overall strategy. The best way to do this is to jump into a screen share so I can map this out for you…
Overall Strategy to Become a Full-Time Content Creator
One thing I want to stress right now is that this strategy is ideal for people who have a skill set they want to teach. This can be anyone from:
- Coaches: Life coaches, personal trainers, health coaches, public speaking coaches, etc.
- Professional Educators: Sales trainers, writing instructors, photography tutors, web development teachers, etc. I created my 7-figure brand by teaching people Google Ads.
- Hobby Niches: This is often overlooked but a great way to get paid for teaching what you love, whether it’s fishing, cooking, woodturning, or playing guitar.
On the point of creating your own course, later in this series, I’ll walk you through the process of course creation. Right now, if you follow the link below, you can get access to my course creation checklist, which takes you through all the steps.
Addressing Common Questions
Before we go any further, it's important to cover some initial questions from a student of mine. These are very common and ones I even asked myself before starting my journey as a content creator.
“Do I have anything of value to say?” Especially when you don’t have an audience!
This is a very real concern. I waited three years to start my YouTube channel about teaching Google Ads because I worried I wasn’t the best expert in the field or didn’t have the most experience.
The reality is, there will always be someone with better experience or better results than you. But the goal of a content creator isn’t to be the best person in the world.
Right now, I have the largest Google Ads teaching channel on YouTube. Does that make me the best person at Google Ads in the world? No, it doesn’t, and that’s not my focus.
My focus is to help people.
If you approach your content with the goal of helping people by teaching them what you do, know, or have learned, rather than trying to be the smartest or best person, you’ll find success.
So, do you have anything of value to say? Don’t worry about whether what you say has value—that's for your audience to decide. Focus on creating content that:
- Helps people avoid mistakes you’ve made
- Teaches lessons you’ve learned
- Provides exact steps or strategies to complete certain tasks
“Ugh, the cringe factor of hearing and seeing myself. I’m procrastinating!”
Yes, this is a real thing. I have yet to meet a course creator who loves the sound of their own voice. I certainly don’t.
Putting yourself out there is scary because it opens you up to criticism. People might say you look silly, sound silly, or your ideas and strategies are wrong.
This is why content creation is best suited for people with real-world experience in the area they’re teaching. They know their ideas work, even if they don’t have a big audience yet.
For me, even though I had zero audience, I started because I knew my work had brought growth to my business and clients over ten years.
Even if it’s just your friends finding value in what you teach, use this as initial confidence to start.
Conclusion
By focusing on helping people, utilizing your real-world experience, and pushing past the cringe factor, you can become a full-time content creator in 2024. This journey is about consistent value creation and connecting with your audience through meaningful content.
